Guru Granites is a granite manufacturer & wholesaler, established in 2019 and led by founder Vikrant Jain, who has 20+ years of experience in the granite trade. Our founder began in the granite trade decades ago, ran a granite company in Madurai from 2012 until selling it in 2018, and founded Guru Granites in Bargur in 2019. We run 2 factories and a 35,000 sq ft warehouse, with around 5 lakh sq ft of stone and 200+ varieties in stock.
What is Black Galaxy granite?
- Where it comes from: genuine Black Galaxy is quarried in one place in the world: Chimakurthy Mandal, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh, around the villages of Chimakurthy, R.L. Puram, Budawada and Devarapalem. The Government of Andhra Pradesh lists it as Prakasam's "One District One Product".
- What it is: geologically, it's a gabbro-norite, a dark igneous rock. Strictly speaking it isn't a true granite, but the stone trade sells it as granite.
- Why it sparkles: the golden flecks are the mineral bronzite, which is rich in iron. Polishing brings out a metallic shine.
- Other trade names: Star Galaxy, Galaxy granite, Gold Star.
- History: commercial quarrying began in 1987, and the stone has since sold in large volumes in India and abroad.
What changes the price
Not all Black Galaxy is the same. Buyers usually compare:
- Fleck size and density: fine, evenly spread flecks versus larger, sparser flecks.
- Background colour: a deep, even black is valued most. Watch for grey patches or white veins.
- Slab size and thickness: larger slabs mean fewer joints in kitchens and lobbies.
- Finish quality: a high-gloss polish without dyed or waxed surfaces. Our pricing guide explains how to spot doctored stones: Understanding Granite Pricing.
Tell us what you need and we'll show you the slabs we have in stock.
Where Black Galaxy works best
- Kitchen countertops and islands: dense, low-porosity and good at hiding stains.
- Flooring for lobbies, hotels and commercial spaces: dramatic and hard-wearing.
- Staircases, wall cladding and bathroom vanities.
